ASHEBORO – Frankie Wofford of Elon, a 10-year employee of the Head Start Program administered by Regional Consolidated Services (RCS) of Asheboro, is a mother bursting with pride. Her sentiments are shared with enthusiasm by her RCS colleagues at the Head Start offices in Burlington where she serves as Alamance county facilities and wrap-around coordinator.
The source of Wofford’s pride is the recent promotion from major to lieutenant colonel of her 40-year-old son, Quinn Wofford in the United States Air Force overseas. Lieutenant Colonel Wofford is stationed at Kiev in the Ukraine where he is Air Attache representing the USAF.
A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Wofford speaks fluent Russian.
At RCS headquarters in Asheboro as well as in Head Start offices in Burlington, Frankie Wofford’s fellow employees have allowed themselves to join her in celebrating her son’s promotion. Lieutenant Colonel Wofford graduated from the Head Start preschool program in Mebane where his Mom was a teacher.
“We kind of grew up in the program together,” Frankie Wofford says. “What he’s done with his career, I think, speaks volumes for the educational and social foundation built for him in Head Start.”
“I just couldn’t be more proud,” she concludes.
In addition to his degree at Chapel Hill, the Colonel has earned a Masters degree from the University of Mississippi. He has also studied abroad at Rostov on the Don.
Lieutenant Colonel Wofford expects to be on the Air Force staff in Kiev, Ukraine, for one more year. Meanwhile, his proud mother carries on with a career of her own in Head Start, one that spans 28 years. She has been with RCS since 1998 when the non-profit agency took over the preschool program in both Alamance and Caswell counties.
