Asheboro Golfer Frequent Winner in RCS Classic By: Addison Penfield 3/20/2009
ASHEBORO—Rob Elliott says he definitely will be playing in the annual Add Penfield/RCS Golf Classic at the Pinewood Country Club May 15. Little wonder. Elliott’s been on the winning team more than any other contestant in the history of the fundraiser for Regional Consolidated Services (RCS) of Asheboro.
Elliott, proprietor of Golf USA in Asheboro, has loaned his considerable links talents to championship foursomes four times…three times in consecutive years. He’s had different teammates, with one exception. Female shotmaker Stacy Hilton twice has been on his team.
In 2003, Elliott started his three-straight streak. Dr. Jack Atwater, Louis Armstrong and Megan Dunn joined him at the Asheboro Country Club that year. In 2004, the local businessman captained a team including Ryan Patton, Chad Gore and Derek Smith. And in 2005, Elliott won the tournament in the company of Rodney Sims, Dwight Crews and Hilton.
Elliott last took home a championship plaque in 2007 when he teamed with Dr. Harry Killian, Bob Shaffner and Hilton.
In May, Elliott and the RCS Classic field will be taking on the challenging par-72 Pinewood golf course which will host the captain’s choice tournament for the first time. Proceeds of the event go directly to the operating fund of Regional Consolidated Services to enhance the nonprofit agency’s human services programs.
Entry blanks for the tournament are available at the RCS main offices, 221 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, at the Pinewood pro shop and at other golf facilities in the area, including Asheboro Municipal, Uwharrie Golf Club and Tot Hill Farm Golf and Country Club.
The single contestant entry fee is $75. The team fee is $300. The tournament package includes greens fees and cart, a favors packet, luncheon and prizes.
