Pinewood Rating Well Received at RCS By: Addison Penfield 2/27/2009
ASHEBORO—News that the Pinewood Country Club golf course is ranked in the top 13% of North Carolina’s courses has been well received at the offices of Regional Consolidated Services (RCS) in Asheboro. That’s because the non-profit human services agency will be staging its annual golf fundraiser at Pinewood May 15. For the first time in the 17-year history of the event, the par-72 layout just off U-S Highway 220, South of Asheboro, will be the venue for what lately has been known as the Add Penfield/RCS Golf Classic, with the Acme-McCrary/Sapona Foundation as the corporate sponsor. According to reports published unofficially in advance of a feature article scheduled to appear in the March issue of Business North Carolina, a publication sponsored by the N. C. State Chamber of Commerce, Pinewood’s status among the more than 500 golf courses in the state improved by eight places..from 79th to 71st. The rankings are compiled by a panel of 120 members of clubs throughout North Carolina, representing all sections and all skill levels of the game, from pros to week-end golfers. Asheboro resident Leo Derrick has served on the panel. The RCS tournament office has offered congratulations to Pinewood’s management. Also, Janice Scarborough, founder and executive director of the agency, said RCS is looking forward to the May fundraiser in a new environment. The Classic is an 18-hole, captain’s choice event. Entry blanks now are available in the Pinewood pro shop and at the main offices of Regional Consolidated Services, 221 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro. They are also available at other golf facilities in the community, including the Asheboro Municipal Course, Uwharrie Golf Club and Tot Hill Farm Golf and Country Club. |
