RCS Head Start Thanks Blaine Ward By: Addison Penfield 2/23/2009
ASHEBORO—Blaine Ward, a retired Asheboro banker, has been honored for his personal support of the Head Start Program operated by Regional Consolidated Services. Ward received a plaque of appreciation at the recent quarterly meeting of the RCS Board of Directors of which he is a member, The presentation was made by Patti Horan, RCS Head Start director. The former First National Bank executive first became interested in the non-profit agency and its three-county program for preschool youngsters while serving as an officer in the Randolph Golden K Kiwanis Club of Asheboro. For the past two years, Ward has made Head Start a personal project, donating $500 to the program. The money is used to purchase children’s books for use in Head Start classrooms, eight of which are at two sites in Randolph county. Ward has been a regular visitor to those classrooms to read aloud to the three and four-year-olds. The plaque given him praises Ward “for your dedication to the promotion of early literacy for our Head Start children in Alamance, Caswell and Randolph counties. Your dedication…is greatly appreciated,” In accepting the honor, Ward expressed pleasant surprise. |
