RCS Head Start to Graduate 86 in County By: Addison Penfield May 26, 2009
ASHEBORO—A total of 86 children has completed early childhood training in the Head Start Program offered in Asheboro and Randolph county by Regional Consolidated Services (RCS) of Asheboro. The three-and-four year old preschoolers will celebrate their graduation with field days Friday, June 5.
The two Head Start sites in the county will hold separate exercises. Classes at the Connie H. Redding Head Start Building will observe the field day at 118 Virginia Avenue in Asheboro. Head Start Station classes will graduate at that site, 7279 Jordan Road, Ramseur. Both field days will begin at 9:30 a. m.; they are scheduled to end at noon.
Sixty-nine youngsters will be finishing in Asheboro; 17, in Ramseur.
Thirteen teachers comprise the staff at the Connie Redding site. They are: Brandy Martin, Lisha Lilly, Holly Reeder, Grace Moore, Flossie Ellis, Diana Nash, Paula Elsworth. Diana Jones. Mindy Poindexter, Pam McDonald, Karla Moses, Enda Lilly and Teresa Early.
Family advocates are Heather Brune-Brewer and Maria Recendez.
The staff at Head Start Station consists of four teachers for the two classes. They are: Carrie McNeill, Lakeisha Rodgers, Vicky Brown and Kimberly Woodruff. Karey Story is the family advocate.
Head Start is designed to provide eligible children with social and academic skills which will serve them well in the public schools. Qualities such as self-sufficiency, self-worth and productivity are emphasized.
